This isn’t about picking “perfect” values. It’s about naming what you want to be guided by.
A value becomes useful when it’s specific enough to apply on a normal Tuesday.
Try this in 10 minutes:
- Choose three values
- Scan a values list and circle 8–12 that feel real to you.
- Narrow to 3.
- If everything feels important, pick the three you’d most regret losing.
- Define each value in one sentence
Write it like a personal rule you can follow.
- Not: “Health.”
- More usable: “I protect my sleep and basic movement so I have energy to show up for people.”
- Add a “looks like this” example
For each value, write one concrete behavior you could notice this week.
- Value: “Integrity” → “I tell the truth even when it’s awkward.”
- Looks like: “If I can’t do something, I say no within 24 hours instead of stalling.”
If you want a simple constraint: keep it under five values. When too many things are called “core,” it gets hard to prioritize.
Optional check-in question (no fixing required):
Where does my calendar already match these values—and where does it clearly not?
